Brand Tata up there, but could have done better

Right after the Corus chapter was signed on by Ratan Tata, the Tata Group has another feather in its cap – although it’s probably not a very big feather! It is the only company of Indian origin that figures in UKbased brand valuation company Brand Finance’s Top 250 Most Valuable Global Brands list. Brand Tata is ranked at 103. In any case, the list is a bit of a dampener in any case at a time when Indian brands are being tom-tommed as having “arrived” in the global arena.

After calm, comes the storm, surely!

Ten months of confusion, but it finally got over. Yes, with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) giving a final nod to the $85 billion merger between AT&T and BellSouth on December 29, 2006, the deal signed in March 2006 with expected synergies worth $18 billion, finally saw sunlight!The transaction also grants AT&T complete control over Cingular – US’ leading wireless service provider. “AT&T will be an engine for innovation, competition and growth for our customers,” remarked Ed Whitacre Jr., Chairman & CEO, AT&T on the completion of the merger. The merger was hit by ‘objecting’ forces as soon as it was devised.
