Yes, with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) giving a final nod to the $85 billion merger between AT&T and BellSouth on December 29, 2006, the deal signed in March 2006 with expected synergies worth $18 billion, finally saw sunlight!The transaction also grants AT&T complete control over Cingular – US’ leading wireless service provider. “AT&T will be an engine for innovation, competition and growth for our customers,” remarked Ed Whitacre Jr., Chairman & CEO, AT&T on the completion of the merger. The merger was hit by ‘objecting’ forces as soon as it was devised.
